Durham Region’s Premier Equestrian Centre for over 35 years

Where lifelong riders begin…

Nestled on 26 scenic acres just outside Pickering and Ajax, the Pickering Horse Centre has been Durham’s trusted equestrian home for over 35 years.

As a family-run Hunter/Jumper stable, we offer a welcoming environment where riders of all ages and levels can grow their skills, build confidence, and fall in love with horses.

Our facility includes six spacious outdoor rings, two indoor arenas—including a new 90x240 arena and lounge complex—and stabling for 110 horses.

We specialize in weekly riding lessons, popular horse camps, and an opportunity to move up to competitive training programs through our partner show barn Wulffden Equestrian.

PHC is a licensed facility and proud member of the Ontario Equestrian Stable Program—committed to safety, quality, and the joy of the ride.

My daughter completed her second lesson today and I am so grateful to the staff at PHC who genuinely care about building up her confidence as a new rider. The staff and other riders are so welcoming and even my younger daughter who is tagging along is already asking when we go back as the environment and staff are so welcoming special thanks to Jack Jack and Sadie Rose.

QuoteAmazing horse centre ... the horses are very well-cares for and loved, improvements are always being made to the facilities, communication with parents and programming for students is awesome, the coaches are very knowledgeable and great at knowing when and how to appropriately challenge students. I can't say enough about how great the PHC is and continues to be. It's been so wonderful watching my daughter grow in this sport at the PHC over the past five years.

The Pickering Horse Centre has the most incredible staff! They are a family run barn that are all truly kind and hardworking individuals. My sister has been horseback riding here since she was 6 and she is currently 18. They have always taken amazing care of her and turned her into the great rider that she is today. They are extraordinary at what they do and really care about those they teach. If you're looking to learn horseback riding whether you're a complete beginner, advanced, or somewhere in between, I highly recommend going to the Pickering Horse Centre!

If you have ever considered learning to ride or enrolling your children in riding lessons, the Pickering Horse Centre in Durham region is hands down the best place to be. My son started riding several years ago and once we found PHC, it was easy to see the difference between what a normal riding school is, and an excellent riding facility. Our initial impression of the Pickering Horse Centre was that it was a local family owned business (which we liked) that seemed to have a clean facility and lessons that worked with our schedule.

As we became familiar with PHC we realised that it is so much more! The coaches and instructors are all certified and highly knowledgeable. This, coupled with their apparent and unbridled (forgive the pun) passion for the sport, for their horses, and for their students are what keep us coming back. The Pickering Horse Centre is welcoming, professional, fun and family oriented, with lessons available for all age groups from tots to adults and skill levels from beginner to competition level. It’s hard not to feel like a part of a family when you spend time at the Pickering Horse Centre. We love our PHC Barn Family!

There have been so many years and so many memories, it’s hard to fit it all into a paragraph. Many years ago we brought our daughters to PHC because our neighbour recommended it. We have stayed at PHC because it is family run and also because our three girls really enjoy everything about it. They all took lessons, volunteered, and worked at PHC. The older two started at PHC as kids and are now captains of their respective university equestrian teams. On school breaks, they still come home to take lessons. My oldest daughter is in veterinary school and her experience at PHC influenced her decision to pursue equine surgery for her specialty. My middle daughter gives up Summer weekends to travel to shows, working as a groom for the PHC show team. My youngest daughter has followed her sisters’ love for horses and rides and volunteers at PHC on Saturday’s.
